About Me

Hi! My name is Kirsten, and I am a freelance illustrator from California, USA.

I grew up in a tiny little town in the mountains of Northern California. My parents are avid backpackers, and so from an early age, I spent time every summer backpacking and hiking in the back country of California. In addition to these hiking vacations, living in a rural area many that for fun I built forts, swam in the nearby creek, and played with animals. I believe that my love of depicting nature and animals in my art comes from this early exposure to the natural world.

I studied art at Brigham Young University Idaho, and graduated from there with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. Today I live in the same town I grew up in. I have 4 children of my own, who keep my life interesting and busy with school, karate, and dance classes. When I manage to find a little time for myself, I enjoy playing the piano, tap dancing, reading fantasy novels and fairy tales, hiking, cooking, and sewing.

I have always enjoyed creating art for children. Spending hours and hours reading picture books to my kids has strengthened my appreciation of, and exposure to, children’s illustration. I am looking for opportunities to share the wonder and joy of life with youngsters through art.
