The Overworked Pastry Chef

Whimsical watercolor and colored pencil illustration of a stressed out chef trying to do too many things at once. With one hand he mixes a bowl of frosting for some cupcakes, and with the other hand he's grabbing the handle of a pot that's boiling over on the stove. Behind him is a dark window, pots and spoons hanging on the wall, and a shelf with mixing bowls stacked on top of it.
Whimsical watercolor and colored pencil illustration of a nervous pastry chef, leaning out from behind a throne on which sits a plump young prince. The chef is offering the boy a towering plate of pastries . There is a table next to the prince with more goodies piled on it. A small dog sniffs a fallen doughnut with a bite our of it at the chef's feet.
Whimsical watercolor and colored pencil illustration of a chef relaxing after a long day, leaning back in his chair with his feet on the table, drinking a cup of tea, with his apron draped over the back of the chair. A small spotted dog sleeps under the table.

Esteban the Pastry Chef is overworked, but well paid. He works hard to keep the young Prince of Poplin happy. After an exhausting day cooking delicacies, Esteban enjoys a quiet cup of tea in the kitchen.

I drew the character of Esteban one night while doodling in my sketchbook, and liked him so much that I decided to paint a story about him. That’s where these paintings originated.

Watercolor, ink, and colored pencil with digital edits.
